Thinking Systems is a compilation of fifteen case studies presented and discussed by faculty of the Bowen Center of the Study of the Family between 1994 and 2021. These clinical presentations, with an introduction to each chapter by Dr. McKnight, represent a range of family challenges that both clinicians and family members interested in applying Bowen theory will find useful. The introduction to the book is a concise but comprehensive summary of Bowen theory’s major variables and concepts such as the work on differentiation of self. This book is appropriate for clinicians and family members who want to learn more about how complex human challenges are addressed by systems thinking.

About the author
Dr. McKnight is Director Emerita of the Bowen Center and a frequent contributor to the Bowen Center’s Family Systems Journal, where these case conferences were first published. In her extensive clinical career, in teaching and supervision, and in presentations nationally and internationally, she has utilized systems thinking in the application of Bowen theory.
