Barbara Laymon, PhD, MPH

Barbara Laymon is a family systems consultant working to make Bowen theory accessible to a wide audience. Her recent book, All the Families of the Earth: Therapists in Bible Times, looks at family emotional processes through the stories of scripture. Her survey research on congregational functioning provides empirical evidence that congregations do indeed function like families. Her educational background includes a PhD from the pastoral counseling program at Loyola University, Baltimore, and, earlier in her career, an MPH from the University of South Carolina. She lives in Washington, DC, where Nationals baseball keeps hope alive.
