The Center offers a wide variety of conferences and lectures, most of which offer CEU credit in counseling and social work. Follow the links below to view information on each program. Annual Symposium
The 47th Annual Symposium will be held November 5-6, 2010.
This year’s Distinguished Guest Lecturer is Dr. Peter Stearns, Provost and Professor of History at George Mason University and author of Anxious Parents: A History of Modern Childrearing in America. Audiovisual materials from previous Symposiums are available on our online store.
Spring Conference
The Spring Conference - Impact of
Relationships on Individual Variation - was held April 17-18, 2010. Audiovisual materials from the Spring Conference and from previous Conferences are available on our online store.
Clinical Conference Series
The Clinical Conferences feature Bowen Center faculty members who address subjects in Bowen theory that are demonstrated in videotaped clinical interviews with families. Counseling and Social Work CEUs are available.
Thursday Professional Lectures
The Thursday Professional lectures are free and open to the public. They feature historians, scientists, and clinicians addressing a variety of topics.
Beyond Blame
These one day conferences are offered in the fall and spring in the Washington, DC area. They are designed to provide constructive means for understanding and managing oneself in family relationships. The conference features a lecture/discussion format with clinical videotapes to highlight key ideas that are helpful in dealing with important relationships. Counseling and Social Work CEUs are available.
Theory Meeting
By invitation only, bi-monthly meeting on the development of Bowen theory.
Kerr Monday Conference Series
These lectures feature Bowen family systems theory and the difference it makes in one’s family and in clinical practice.
Individuals living in the local DC metropolitan area are invited to participate by attending the lectures in person at the Bowen Center. The one and ½ hour presentation is webcast to sites around the United States.
