The Bowen Center FacultyMignonette Keller, PhD
Mignonette Keller has been affiliated with the Georgetown Family Center since 1971 and appointed to the faculty in 2001. She received her undergraduate degree in sociology from Tuskegee University, her master's degree in social work from the University of Chicago and her PhD in sociology from Howard University. She participated in the Center's postgraduate training program from 1975 to 1978. Her areas of specialization are family systems theory, gerontology and social psychology. She received faculty research awards from Howard University in 1985-1989 and 2000-2001. Dr. Keller's research interests relate to developing a systems model for family research, developing the family diagram as a reliable assessment instrument and developing a family systems model for studying families that have older family members with Alzheimer's disease residing in assisted living facilities. She has taught at Howard University, counseled families as a senior social worker at Maryland Children's Aid and Family Service Society, and worked as a family counselor at the Northern Virginia Family Service. She is currently the President and CEO of Family Transitions, an organization that provides services for the frail and elderly in Maryland. Dr. Keller's responsibilities as a member of the Bowen Center's faculty include being the coordinator of the Clinical Conference Series and serving on the Research Committee, the Program Committee, the Outreach Committee, and the Clinic Committee. Her article, "A Case Study: Efforts toward Differentiation of Self among Slaves and their Descendents" was published in Family Systems in 2006. Contact Information: mkeller@thebowencenter.org
