November 8-9, 2003
40th Symposium on
Family Theory and Family Psychotherapy
Distinguished Guest Lecturer: David Sloan Wilson
Evolution is often associated with immoral behaviors and an incapacity for change, but it can equally explain the existence of morality and the potential for personal and societal change. Dr. Wilson shows how traits associated with goodness evolve and how psychological and cultural processes count as evolutionary advances, enabling individuals and societies to adapt to current environmental challenges. He draws upon material from his recent book Darwins Cathedral: Evolution, Religion, and the Nature of Society in addition to his current research on everyday human experiences.
